Malfunction in KB3197954 ? Latency when using Get-WmsStation powershell command

Hello,

We have recently migrated our server from Windows Multipoint Server 2012 to Windows Server 2016. Our software was working fine, until our server installed the KB3197954 update. Here is the scenario :

- Before the KB3197954 update :

If we restart a session on a station and we execute the Get-WmsStation command, it displays instantly all the information, including the -SessionId attached to this station.

- After the KB3197954 update :

If we restart a session and we execute the Get-WmsStation command, the returned -SessionId is 4294967295. We have to wait 30sec to 1min until the correct -SessionId is returned (we guess that a service or an executable is running in background in order to do this : in the WMSManager/Stations tab we notice that when the screen blinks, the -SessionId is updated. By the way, we would be interested to know which executable is in charge for this operation).

I stay at your disposal for any further information.

Regards

Logging out disconnects network card in 2016 with VirtualIP enabled

I have discovered a possible bug with Multipoint 2016 and the VirtualIP feature (i.e. "Assign a unique IP to each station"). When the VirtualIP feature is turned on with Multipoint 2016, almost every time I log out of Windows (USB or direct-connect) my network goes offline as well so that all stations stop working. I sometimes see a yellow exclamation mark on the network icon in the taskbar, while sometimes it shows a red x. A screen on the direct-connect station says "The connection has been lost. Attempting to reconnect to your station... The network is not available. The connection will be reinstalled when the network is available." After a couple of minutes the stations come back to life but then most often a yellow exclamation mark appears on the network card icon with the tooltip of "No Internet Access." When this happens, Internet and other network resources no longer work and my LAN stations no longer connect. Pinging the computer from the outside doesn't respond, but the USB and Direct-Connect stations can at least log in.

When this happens my IP is 169.254.45.3. When I ran IPConfig /renew in an elevated command prompt I get the message: "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation." I updated my network card drivers but that didn't help. I set my IP to static but that didn't help. When I go to the properties of the network card I sometimes get "an unexpected error occurred" but then my second try it lets me in.

Rebooting solves the issue but ironically disabling my network card also solves the issue. When I disable my card, it freezes all of my stations but then after a couple of minutes everything comes back to life and the network card is enabled and functioning again. I assume it's the MultiPoint Repair service that is recovering my network card for me.

Disconnecting doesn't cause the issue. Logging out does. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a solution other than turning off VirtualIP? I am pretty sure it's the VirtualIP with the issue, since when I turned if off during my troubleshooting I was able to log off without issues and when I turned it back on the issue came back immediately.

When i restart manualy, then client say "waiting for the remote desktop services to start". Then i have to wait for about 2-3 minute and then client started. And then i find another problem, that client dont recognize USB key. So mouse and keyboard working, but if i set an USB key to uper USB connectors, then multipoint not recognize him. And everyday is the same story. So at the mornig i have to restart server and wait to start working well. Any solution? Client are Atrust M320, connected by LAN (auto IP)

Thanks

Hi!

We have ordered WMS2012 several month ago.
1) Is there any possible ways to upgrade it to MultiPoint Server 2016?
2) Is CAL and RDS licenses from WMS2012 compatible with Server 2016?

Multipoint 2016 Lock Screen

I am trying to get Multipoint 2016 working, but i am running into a show stopping problem.

I have installed Server 2016 performed all system updates

Enable the Multipoint role.

I have 2 stations setup (1 direct with ps2 the other is Atrust m300) both with autologin accounts.

When I wake the machine from display sleep my direct connected station is at the locked screen, but you cannot interact with it. The Atrust session is sitting at a black screen with the mouse cursor visible.

I have tried enabling GPO to disable the lock screen "Administrative Templates -> Control Panel -> Personalization -> Do not display the lock screen" but this setting seems to have no effect.

My guess is somehow the WMSshell account is getting dumped to the lock screen. Anyway if anyone has any ideas on resolving this I would like to hear them.

Hi

The UPS stopped working during the holiday break which then turned off the company server.  I have reconnected to a new UPS and restarted the server but it won't reboot fully,

Unsure how to recover/ or get the server to reboot fully.

I believe the server uses Windows 7 Professional

Hello,

Has Multipoint server 2012 been discontinued ? One of the MS support people told it has been discontinued and only available as a role in Server 2016. Would like to confirm with the community.

Thanks!

Intel Skylake issues with USB zero clients

Hi

With the release of the new Role in Windows Server 2016, you should be aware of the fact that with the new Intel CPUs (Skylake and north) you can't connect more than 3 USB Zero clients.

This limitation wasn't addressed by MS till now and the only solution is to connect an additional USB controllers to the Motherboard. Very disturbing I must say...

Hello,

I have installed mutipoint 2016 on a hyper-v 2016 server. I am able to RDP to it. I had problems to find how to set per terminal rdp acess, ended with gpedit. no problem with the diagnostics of RDP licenses (this server is stiil in a workgroup)

My E03 is in state "waiting for assigned host", I don't knwo what to check next. (I will check the status with Wyse)

I could send a log report, or whatever.

Someone got a Wyse E03 connected to a WMS 2016 ? (see one positive answer from berowsma, E03 thin clients should work)

There is one warning in "Multipoint manager". You don't have client access license for all the stations of this computer. To solve this problem, use the task "add client access licenses" (but it seems there are present)

MultiPoint Services - Server 2016

Hi guys,

I have a small problem with configuring multipoint services on Server 2016.

Everything I do is in my virtual environment (VMWare Workstation 12). So, I have Server 2016 with Hyper-v (one Win7 VM with two accounts with admin privileges) and multipoint services implemented. Each user account is enabled for remote access.

However, when I try to connect to that user accounts (one RM connection from my physical PC and one from my virtual server to Win 7), I get kicked off every time with a message: "Another user is currently logged on to this computer. If you continue, this user has to disconnect from this computer. Do you want to continue?"

So, I am connecting from two different operating systems to Win7 virtual machine to different user accounts and I always get that message.

Anyone has any ideas? I would be very thankful if someone help me to resolve that.

Thanks

Multipoint VM customization

Hello,

I have Windows 10 virtual machine (Hyper-V) and MultiPoint services configured on the same Server 2016.

I am using only one (administrator) account on Windows 10.

When I click on "Customize virtual desktop template" inside the MultiPoint Manager, VM starts and I am not getting "CompleteCustomization" icon on the desktop.

Why is this happening and what should I do to fix that?

Thank you.

MP 2012 Server Slowing Down and Large Amount of Devices

$

Hey guys, over time we are finding our Multi Point Servers are really slowing down. Out setup is basically 1 computer with 4-8GB of Ram, 1 GB Video Card, 500 GB HDD, 1 USB Hub (Keyboard & Mouse hook into this) and then 4 Atrust boxes to hook up our other stations... so 5 stations running off 1 machine... Sometimes it is lower then this, depending on where the setup is and the space.

So a colleague and myself were investigating why the machines were slowing down and one thing we noticed was all of these hidden devices in device manager: If you go to device manager and click view, then Show Hidden Devices, You will see SRC HID Consumer Control Sideband, SRC kbd PDO, and SRC Mouse Sideband.

After some further investigating we noticed every time a user logs in, the number of these devices increases... So we are assuming over time this number is getting higher and the computer is slowing down as a result...

Anyways we were wondering if anyone else has seen this? Knows why it is happening? Possibly know how to fix it?

Roaming Profiles with multipoint 2016

$

In our setup of multipoint 2012, we have a roaming mandatory profile setup to be used for all users logged in, this also includes desktop settings, and Tile start screen layout, which removes itself on logout preventing caching of profiles, Issue I'm experiencing in 2016 is the start menu will no longer load properly or work. No programs can be clicked on and since the profile clears after logout it repeats issue upon restart.

Does anyone have any ideas how to correct this or maybe an alternative way I can accomplish this.

Issue with Atrust M320 and Multipoint Server 2012

$

Hello.

Over the last few years I've installed a couple of Multipoint 2012 servers with the mentioned stations. I've used the same installation DVD and the exact same procedures, but I have a big problem with my latest installation.

First, I install Multipoint 2012 and I run Windows Update, since the release I have is a bit old, but it's never failed me so I keep using it. This is a must step since the Atrust LAN driver wont work without update Rollup 1 that is missing from my DVD. There are about 150 updates that install on the first run and while that is going on I install the graphics driver.

Second. After the restart I'm able to install the Atrust M320 LAN and Video drivers and I restart again.

Third. After the second restart I install some LAN and chipset drivers and after that I'm able to assign all the stations and everything is working great.

The problem comes here somewhere. When all this is done there are still quite a bit more updates to go but the system is running fine. When the next pack of updates install and I restart the server NIC 2 (which connects the server to the stations through a switch) starts restarting and disabling itself which causes all the stations to lose connection and stop working. This can happen around every 5 minutes and it renders the stations useless. I switched the NIC's (I put the stations on NIC 1 and the Internet on NIC 2), but then NIC 1 with the stations on it starts disabling itself. Both NIC"s are completely different and use different drivers so it's definitely not a LAN driver problem.

I believe that there is some update that is causing this but I'm not sure. The last time I installed Multipoint Server 2012 was 2-3 months ago, I followed the same exact procedures and everything was working fine. Even the servers were almost identical except that the first one was using an Nvidia GT730 graphics card and the one I'm installing now is using an AMD 5450.

I don't think it's the graphics drivers. After I install the AMD drivers the stations run very smooth. I can see all the fading effects, shadows and I can play Youtube videos with no problems. The problem starts 1-2 restarts after that.
