Can I boot a Multipoint Server with Wake on Lan?

$

I would like to turn my multipoint servers on and off automatically.  I assume I can schedule a task that will shut the computer down.  Can I wake on lan a Multipoint Server?  I was unsuccessful in previous attempts on MPS 2011, was I missing some configuration?  Or does MPS 2012 have this capability?

Thanks

Join MultiPoint 2012 to Server 2012R2 Essentials Probs

Hi All,

I've encountered prob when joining a Multipoint 2012 server to a Server 2012R2 Essentials.

The join via the connect webpage works fine, though takes a bit of time.

After the reboot, Multipoint Manger no longer functions. It pops up a crash warning immediately upon trying to launch.

I diisjoined the Multipoint machine, uninstalled the client connector. Then blew the machine out of AD.

After a reboot of both, I did a manual domain join of the Multipoint machine. That works fine and Multipoint Manager works again, but obviously, all the client connector "goodies" such as backups and remote access are gone.

Is there a known compatibility issue with Multipoint and the 2012r2 client connector ?

Earlier I had a test setup using the eval versions,(these are open license) but with the older 2012 Essentials, and everything worked perfectly.

I specifically want the R2 ver of Essntials to eliminate the requirement of Silverlight and Office 365 Integration. The additional Group management via the Dashboard is a nice improvement too.

These 2 products could be a perfect team if Microsoft would just integrate The manager/dashboard of both.

Perhaps add a "roaming profiles" feature as well ( instead of having to use the normal gpmc. )

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

sir,

I installed wms 2012 premium in i7 ,DH77KC  desktop board machine,  I connected 3 Zero clients (USB over network) . I installed AutoCAD, 3ds max, catia softwares in server and I opened those softwares in server as well as 3 zero clients.

To my surprise the cpu performance in Task Manager is 100% .. my plan is to connect 10 zero clients , but the cpu performance reached 100%. if I connect 10 zero clients to the server , it may hang and clients also may hang.

IS THERE ANY APPLICATION TO MINIMISE THE CPU UTILIZATION??  PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTION TO SUPPRESS THE CPU UTILIZATION

RemoteFx Supported devices & Windows Multipoint Server 2012 with Virtual Machines

Hello Everybody,

In the newest version of Microsoft Multipoint Server 2012 there is an option for the users to work on Virtual Machines (under

Hyper-v virtualization platform). I would like to know is it possible to achieve that with the well known zero clients from

Atrust m320, HPT200? According the hardware requirements the RemoteFX feature is needed in order to achieve good video

performance but those zero clients as far as i know don't support RemoteFX. Is it possible to run VMs in Multipoint 2012 with

zero clients which don't support remotefx.

Thank you in advance

Can I use two graphic cards to off load the CPU for RemoteFX LAN connected clients

Dear MS Staffs:

I have a multipoint sever 2012 premium installed on the dual sockets Xeon processors with two AMD PCIE Gen 3 graphic cards, and our goal is to support 20 LAN based hardware clients using RemoteFx technology. Is it possible to allocate up to 4 sessions per 1 graphic card? In this case, 2*4=8 seesions for GPU, and 20-8=12 sessions for CPU (6 seesions per Xeon)?

Hello - I have dowloaded the Server 2012 Evaluation iso.  I am installing it on a VMWare Player VM.  At the beginning of the installation, I receive the following error; "Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms.  Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation"  I did not use a Product Key during the creation of the VM.  I have tried 2 additional iso images I downloaded from Technet but I get the same error.  Also, how would I get a Product Key for thei Trial Version  to add to my VM deployment.  Thanks  Soliciting all suggestions/comments  Thanks

Multipoint 2011: Faulty application name WmsSvc.exe

Hi. I have a customer who uses WMS 2011 happily since 2011 and now I noticed they have errors and their system is unstable. The problem I noticed first is that on the console, it says MP2011 (that's the name of the server) "Unable to connect". But user can work. Then, looking at the logs, I found lots of errors, see screenshot below.

I've been checking all I could but I am at a loss as to what is the cause of this. System hasn't changed, only system updates are run automatically, so I suspect something in this area.

I also noticed that one of the NIC is reporting "Unidentified network" which also wasn't appearing before. I could find some hints for this error and I am gonna try that tomorrow. I don't think both events are related but I wanted to mention this for completeness. I would appreciate any help on the first error.

Thanks in advance.

Windows Multipoint Server with Intel Chipset issue

Recently I installed windows multipoint server premium (evaluate version) on my computer with specs:
- Processor Intel Core i7 2600K
- 3 Graphic Cards XFX Radeon HD 6790
- P67 Fatal1ty Professional Series Motherboard
At the first time, WMS was running fine, detect 2 displays and create a station on each display. But after I installed the Intel chipset driver and restart the computer, WMS is no longer work. Questions are:
1. How to make the WMS works again
2. Each of the graphic card can output 4 dislpays, so I plan to make 12 local station. Is that possible?

SRCShell crashes

Hi,

We have successfully deployed several mulitpoint servers, however our latest batch (slightly different hardware) are suffering from SRCshell crashes - the following is logged in the application event log

Faulting application name: SRCShell.exe, version: 6.1.1600.5, time stamp: 0x4eb465b8

Faulting module name: Station.dll, version: 6.1.1600.5, time stamp: 0x4eb465b5

Faulting process id: 0xd40

Faulting application start time: 0x01cdfa2b86ea24f6

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Windows MultiPoint Server\SRCShell.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Windows MultiPoint Server\Station.dll

Report Id: 567f7e07-6620-11e2-94c3-8c89a5e5df94

the servers are i7, 16GB RAM, hybrid ssd/sata drive with 10 Atrust M302 USB zero clients running multipoint 2011 premium and are joined to our domain

I have tried a clean install rather than from our image and applied all Windows Updates and we still randomly suffer from this.

Any help/ideas appreciated!

Virtual desktop template creation with UR1 - two issues

$

0

There are two new issues affecting Virtual Desktop template creation with WMS 2012 with UR1.

Issue #1: Some systems fail to create a new or customized virtual desktop template with UR1 applied. UR1 includes an updated MultiPoint Connector which is compatible with a UR1 host. The Connector gets included in the Virtual Desktop template so that the virtual desktops can be managed by MultiPoint Dashboard. On some systems installation of the UR1 Connector will require a reboot that takes too long to complete and template creation will timeout.

If you try to create a template without doing the following update to the unattend-t.xml file, and if the Connector reboot takes too long, the template creation process will never complete, appearing stuck at 80% until the timeout. If you check the running Virtual Machine Connection, you will see an error message that Windows could not complete the installation.

Error: windows could not complete the installation

To correct this:

  1. From MultiPoint Manager or Hyper-V Manager, shutdown the running template VM.
  2. Delete the template .vhd stored in Public Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual hard disks

My documents, public documents, Hyper-V, Virtual hard disks

 3. a) Make a backup copy of C:\Program Files\Windows MultiPoint Server\Unattend-t.xml

           e.g. rename it .bak

b) open C:\Program Files\Windows MultiPoint Server\Unattend-t.xml in your favorite text editor.

b) find “connector” in the file

c) replace this string (starts with <Path> and ends with </Path>)

<Path>powershell -Command &quot;try { $process = Start-Process -FilePath &apos;%Windir%\Temp\Connector\WmsConnector.Exe&apos; -ArgumentList &apos;/Quiet&apos; -PassThru -Wait; } catch { throw &apos;WmsConnector Install Failed&apos;}; exit $process.ExitCode&quot;</Path>

with this string

<Path>powershell -Command &quot;try { $p = Start-Process -FilePath &apos;%Windir%\Temp\Connector\WmsConnector.Exe&apos; -ArgumentList &apos;/Quiet/NoRestart&apos; -PassThru -Wait; } catch { throw &apos;WmsConnector Install Failed&apos;}; exit $p.ExitCode&quot;</Path>

then save the file again as Unattend-t.xml

d) Proceed with Create and Customize virtual desktop template, and Create virtual desktop station as described on our blog atVirtual Desktop Templates – Part 1& Part 2

We continue to investigate why this issue occurs on some machines and not others

Issue #2: UR1 was intended to fix an issue creating virtual desktop templates on true UEFI systems, i.e. systems that don’t fall back to legacy support for earlier BIOS services. UR1 did not solve the issue. For now we are recommending doing template creation on systems that do fall back to legacy BIOS services. To check: from Device Manager under Disk Drives select your system hard drive. Double click and go to the Volumes tab and click Populate. The Partition Style entry should be Master Boot Record (MBR).  If it is GPT you have a UEFI system.

We continue to investigate fixing this for UEFI systems.

Cannot Switch back from Console to Normal Mode

Installed Microsoft Multipoint Server 2012 and connected Wyse E02 zero client. WMS recognizes the zero client and tags it as connected but E02 zero client just shows a blank screen. When I move the mouse and type on the keyboard, it reflects in the screen connected to the host.

Checked multipoint manager and found that it is in console mode. Looked for the switch to normal mode option in tasks but it is not there. Rebooted the machine from tasks and it still boots up in console mode. Switch to normal mode is still missing. Any help to get this resolved would be appreciated.

It does not do anything to the dvd in when I place it in the drive.

What should I do?

Please give me clear steps to follow.

Multipoint for Libraries - user session time limit?

$

We are getting a Multipoint Server system for our small local public library. We will be using this system for Public Access workstations. We would like to limit the amount of time a patron can use a workstation before the workstation is logged out. By limiting the amount of time, we provide equitable access to all patrons. Can Multipoint Server be configured to provide auto-logoff after a certain amount of time? If not, what other solutions are there that can provide this timer feature? Optimally, we would like the patron to be notified a few minutes before the auto logoff so he/she can save their work.

Multipoint 2012 Dashboard issues...

Strange issue on this one, hoping someone has an idea.  I have one workstation running Multipoint Server 2012 Premium (teacher's station) connected to 18 other workstations (student stations) with two directly connected monitors each (USB hubs used).  I was able to get good connections from the teacher's station to the student stations through the Multipoint Manager.  All workstations are joined to our domain.

If I log in to the teacher's station as the domain admin, I can open Dashboard and everything works beautifully.  If I instead log in as the teacher (who, in the process of troubleshooting, I have made a local admin on the machine), Dashboard will not even start...I get a crash notification immediately.  I'm seeing Error 1026 in the Event Log for the .NET framework (System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException) as well as several Error 1000 Application Errors for WmsDashboard.exe, with the faulting module name KERNELBASE.dll (in the Windows/System32 directory).

I did clean installs on all machines (they previously ran WMS 2011), though I'm wondering if there is a legacy setting travelling around in the teacher's AppData folder or similar that would be trying to apply 2011 settings to 2012.  Or perhaps there is a folder that should have been created that hasn't been (reaching there...just going based on the DirectoryNotFoundException).  I have set permissions on the Program Files/Windows Multipoint Server folder (and subs) to make sure that the teacher's account has Full Control.

At a loss right now...it works unbelievably well for the domain admin account, but obviously don't want to give the teacher that login info!  Anyone have any ideas?

Multipoint Server 2012 and Lync clients using webcams

I have 4 station setup using HPT150 clients with ps2 mouse and keyboard connection, usb webcam (Microsoft LifeCam Studio) and headsets (Jabra) to use Lync 2013. Currently the issue is with video calls. Only one station can use video at one time. On the other stations within Lync it says it cannot detect a webcam, it seems like whichever stations gets the webcam first "wins" and the other stations have to wait till it is released.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know of anywork arounds to be able to get all station the ability to use the webcams simultaneously??

thanks in advance!!

Only one station out of six freezes?

$

We are running Windows Multipoint Server 2011 with HP MultiSeat Thin Clients, 6 stations per PC.  We have one station that consistently freezes while the other 5 on the same computer continue to work.  The station that freezes will not respond to any keyboard or mouse commands, and logging off the user in Multipoint Server does nothing.  If you restart the server, the frozen image stays on the display of this machine long after the other stations have gone to black, but eventually when the pc starts to reboot, it clears.  We are running Windows 7 64-Bit.  Thank you for your help!

USB scanners based on usbscan.sys aren't working.

$

I've seen similar threads asking this question, but it seems that there's a fundamental issue with USB support for scanning on Windows Multipoint Server 2011.    I am finding that anything based on usbscan.sys (which is pretty much everything for USB based STI/WIA scanners) is failing to open the port over USB for reading.   The device will install just fine, and the correct drivers are loaded.   WIA clients such as Windows Fax & Scan show the device.   However any communication over USB is failing.

The same devices work just fine if installed over network.   And the exact same devices with same software/drivers work fine on Windows Server 2008 R2.    It's something specific to WMP 2011.

I want to be clear that this is not a redirection issue or remote scan issue.  We are connecting these scanners via USB to the system, and trying to scan from that same system.

Thanks

Jeremy
